personal ramble

i always see and hear this incredibly shitty and harsh discourse regarding people who are currently on welfare. being that if you are on welfare that you are lazy, ungrateful, an inconvenience to others, and though i am not entirely well-versed on the complicated politics of the welfare system (i’ve only dipped my toes into how the flawed system systematically marginalizes and preys on single moms) i’ve been affected personally by such circumstances and as i’m sure a lot of you know, the personal is political. My mother, when she first left my dad, was on welfare and required a substantial chunk of social assistance to even make sure my brother and I could have minimum three meals a day. that time a dark time for her and it just makes me SO MAD whenever people so easily pigeon hole individuals who require social assistance to live as being wholly undeserving and a nuisance. i realize this is just an individual case, and this post within itself is only personal and emotional, but…god just shut the fuck up, you HAVE NO IDEA what individuals situations are that lead to them needing financial help; whether it be circumstantial or by choice. not EVERY SINGLE PERSON who uses social assistance is a lazy degenerate imposing on Canandian’s values - whatever the fuck those are anyways. goddamn have some fucking empathy.
